In the new social spheres of both cults you mention to admit you do not have enough knowledge is saying you are chronically centrist and a fence sitter. The takeaway is not "you have not had enough time to research" but rather "you are the opposition to my opinion". I am not sure this existed at the level its at now before the internet.
